Peña's Auto Electric, Smog & Repair diagnoses and repairs transmissions in south Bakersfield, from fluid service to leaks and shifting problems. We explain the diagnosis before recommending a repair. Call (661) 599-9098.
Symptoms that point to the transmission
Slipping gears, delayed engagement when you shift into drive, harsh shifts, shuddering, a burning smell and reddish fluid under the car are common signs. A warning light or limp mode also suggests a transmission control problem. Do not keep driving a slipping transmission. Heat and friction can turn a repair into a replacement.
Not every problem is mechanical
Modern transmissions are controlled by sensors, solenoids and wiring. A shifting complaint can come from a failing speed sensor, a bad connector or a low-voltage problem, not from worn internal parts. Because we are an auto electric shop, we check the electrical side early, which can save you from an unnecessary rebuild.
Fluid service
Transmission fluid carries heat away and lubricates internal parts. Intervals vary widely: some manufacturers call for service around 30,000 to 60,000 miles and others describe fluid as lifetime, though many mechanics still recommend periodic service in hot climates. We check fluid level and condition and recommend based on your manual and how you drive.
Leaks and cooling
Common leaks come from pan gaskets, seals and cooler lines. They are usually cheaper to fix than the damage from running low. Heat is a transmission's enemy, and towing in Bakersfield summers raises temperatures. If you tow, ask about a cooler.
What to expect
We road test the car, scan for codes, check fluid, inspect for leaks and test the electrical parts. Then we explain what we found, what is urgent and what is optional, with an estimate before work.
