Electrical is the shop's identity
Auto electric is in our name because it is where we started and what we are known for. Electrical problems are hard to fix by guessing, because a symptom in one place often comes from a fault somewhere else. A dim headlight can be a bad ground, a failing alternator can look like a bad battery, and a car that will not start may have a perfectly good starter. We start with testing so you do not pay for parts that were never broken.
Battery, alternator and starter
The starting and charging system is three parts working together. The battery stores power, the starter turns the engine, and the alternator recharges the battery while you drive. A healthy battery reads about 12.6 volts at rest, and a working charging system pushes roughly 13.5 to 14.7 volts with the engine running. We test all three under load. Bakersfield summers are hard on batteries, which is why our battery-in-heat guide is worth a read before your next 100 degree week.
Lighting problems
Headlights, taillights, turn signals and brake lights are safety equipment and also a common reason for a traffic stop. We repair bulbs, sockets, connectors, relays and wiring. A recent reviewer describes a quick, fairly priced headlight and taillight repair on a Prius. Valley fog in winter makes working low beams more than a convenience. Our headlight repair guide explains what to check before you visit.
Wiring, fuses and mystery drains
Blown fuses, melted connectors, parasitic battery drain and power windows that stop working are all wiring problems. We trace the circuit with a meter, find the short or the drain, and repair the wire instead of swapping parts at random. Rodents chewing wiring harnesses is a real issue around Kern County's fields and orchards, and it can look like several unrelated faults at once.
What to expect at the shop
Tell us when the problem happens: cold start, after sitting, when you turn on the A/C, or only when it rains. We test the battery and charging system first because they are fast and often explain the symptoms. If the diagnosis takes longer, we call with a plan and an estimate before we replace anything.
