Car Won't Start in Bakersfield? Check This, Then Call

Stay safe first

If the car dies in a live lane on Union Ave or Highway 99, turn on hazards and move out of traffic if it will roll. In triple-digit heat, get into shade and keep water with you. Call 911 for any emergency.

Listen to the car

Rapid clicking points to a weak battery. A single click points to the starter or a bad connection. A crank without a start points to fuel or spark, and silence points to a dead battery, a blown fuse or a key problem.

Three quick checks

Check that the battery clamps are tight and not crusted with corrosion, that the shifter is in park or neutral, and that a fob battery is not the problem on push-button cars. A safe jump start often confirms the battery.

Who to call

We are a repair shop, not a tow company. Roadside help can come from your insurer, a roadside plan or a membership such as Way+, which lists roadside assistance access. Tell the driver to bring the car to 303 Taft Hwy, Suite B.

When we get the car

We test the battery, charging system and starter first, because they explain most no-starts. We call with a plan and an estimate before we replace anything.
